TLex Suite Download

Please read these instructions carefully.

Click on the following link to download TLex Suite 4.0:

- (Windows/PC) TLex_Suite_4.0.0.27.exe
To save the installer file to your hard disk, click on the link with the right mouse button and select "Save Target As". Once you have downloaded the file, run it (e.g. by double-clicking on it) to install the TLex Suite.
- (Apple Mac OS X)
(Currently Intel only; no ODBC)
TLex_Suite_4.0.0.31.dmg   Mac BETA
To install, open the DMG package, and drag the TLex and/or tlTerm icons (as desired) onto your Applications folder.

** Customers using the new Document Object Model should use 4.1.0 instead; see below (click here).

Installation [Windows]

IMPORTANT: You need 'administrator rights' on the system when installing and when applying the activation code.

Run the installer on the computer on which you wish to install the software.

Activation

When you first run the software, it will request to be activated on that computer. Click on 'Get Activation Code Online' and enter your 9-digit License Number (that you receive upon purchase) into the form to receive your 16-digit activation code immediately.

Evaluation

If you do not have a License Number, you can use the application in evaluation mode for a limited time by clicking "EVALUATE". At any time, you can purchase a License Number to activate the software and remove all limitations.

If you already have a version of TshwaneLex Suite 4.0 installed ... [Windows]

Make sure TshwaneLex/TshwaneTerm are not running; the installer should then automatically uninstall the older version before installing the new version. (If not, you can uninstall the existing version via "Start/Programs/TshwaneLex 4/Uninstall".) Note that if you have existing databases created with TshwaneLex or TshwaneTerm, they will not be removed while upgrading. Nonetheless it is very strongly recommended that you make backups of your data, including onto a different computer, as a general principle.

DO NOT delete the existing application folder (e.g. under "Program Files") of the previous version.

Re-activation is not required when upgrading (unless upgrading between major versions, e.g. version 3 to version 4).

New Document Object Model

** Important information for 3.99.13 (=> 4.1.0) users : "New Document Object Model" (Notice July 2009):

We are in the process of switching over to a "new, improved Document Object Model". This is a fairly significant change to the "internals" of TshwaneLex that will enable our users to have much more power and flexibility in terms of how they can structure their data (particularly regarding XML inline elements / PCDATA) - however, there may be implications for some existing complex TshwaneLex documents that make migration to the new model not completely trivial. Thus if (AND ONLY IF) you are specifically using the "new improved data model", then you must instead download the following version:

[Windows/PC] TLex_Suite_4.1.0.27.exe (NEW DOCUMENT OBJECT MODEL ONLY) (WAS 3.99.13)
[Mac] TLex_Suite_4.1.0.31.dmg (NEW DOCUMENT OBJECT MODEL ONLY)

To date, the only users who need to use this are those that we've specifically instructed to do so.

If you don't understand any of this, or don't know if you're using the "new improved data model", or haven't specifically been instructed to use the 3.99.13 or 4.1 series, then just ignore this notice and download the regular 4.0.0 series at the top of this page.

Until all users have been migrated to the "new improved Document Object Model", versions beginning "4.0" will use the old model, and versions beginning with "4.1" will use the new data model. This temporary dual-release system may seem confusing, but we have ultimately chosen to do this as the best option for our customers, as it ensures that no customer will be forced to interrupt their current workflow (i.e. if you're on the old model, you can stay on the old model for now, while new customers, or customers for whom transitioning is easy, will be able to choose to immediately start on the new Document Object Model if desired).

NB: Once a particular document has been re-saved using the new Document Object Model, then (if it uses PCDATA) you cannot reload it again in the old-document-object-model versions of TshwaneLex. Thus if you attempt to upgrade a document to the new data model, please make sure that all seems to be correct before proceeding with work.

Documents that do not make use of "PCDATA" at all (which is in fact the case for most of our customers) should have no trouble using either the old or new models, and the transition should be easy - this change only affects documents that are using PCDATA and inline elements. Even most documents using inline elements should convert to the new model without trouble, but there are a few potential obscure cases with complex relative mixed ordering of element PCDATA and attributes in the Styles system (or where there are multiple stylesets) that may cause document output to change - unfortunately this was not really technically feasible to prevent.

For brand new projects / documents, it is perfectly OK to start with the new Document Object Model directly.

We apologise for any confusion or inconvenience caused by this. Contact us if you are at all uncertain.
